Cylinders, cooling. - Two series of oppositely handed helical grooves C, C, are formed under the cylinder liner reinforcing rings D, d1 to assist the cooling. Seatings m, for the valves are provided, and an access port may be furnished in the outer wall of the jacket to permit of hand cleaning of the grooves. It is also stated that a diaphragm, with or without a controlled by-pass, may be provided in the jacket to ensure adequate circulation of water through the grooves C, C,.
