Abstract

512,052. Valves. COUILLAND, P. Nov. 25, 1937, Nos. 32525 and 32526. Void. Convention dates, Jan. 25 and Aug. 23. [Class 7 (vi)] A rotary valve 2 is mounted in bearings 5 arranged in upward extensions of the crank case, and the cylinder block 4 is mounted to slide in the crank case and pressed upwards against the' valve, and against a lateral abutment 7, by a spring-pressed lever 9. The cylinder gases also give an upward pressure to the cylinder during compression and firing. The valve is cooled by water supplied at 11 to a tube 14, and discharged by another tube 15 and an exit pipe 11<1>, the two tubes 14, 15 being arranged telescopically and pressed apart against end flanges 12 by a spring 13. Holes in the ends of the tubes communicate with the hollow interior of the valve. The flow of the gases through the valve ports is silenced by means of pockets 19 formed in the valve casing, and the mixture remaining in the valve ports after inlet has occurred is recovered and returned to the carburetter by pipes 20, 21 leading to and from the pockets 19.
