Abstract

Valves.-In a continuous-combustion engine, air for scavenging and charging is supplied by a turbo-compressor, and combustible mixture is compressed in coaxial extensions of the working cylinders. In the four-cylinder engine shown, the compressor h<1> supplies air to the cylinders through a pipe g<5> which discharges into terminal ports g<1>. The end h of the compressor delivers air into a carburettor m having an outlet pipe m<2> leading to inlet ports l in pump cylinders k<1> - - k<4> the inlet ports being uncovered by tail rods j<1> - - j<4> carried by the main pistons. The pumps anc. combustion chambers are crossconnected by pipes o<1> - - o<4> as shown, the pipes opening into the cylinders through passages p<1> - - p<4> adjacent the sparking-plugs. An extension e<1> of each piston controls exhaust ports f<1> leading to an outlet passage f.
