Abstract

381,573. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, DOWSETT, H. M., 47, Drayton Gardens, Winchmore Hill, both in London, and CADZOW, R., Ardentinny, Argyllshire. July 4, 1931, No. 19340. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] In a cathode-ray tube for use in television, the ray is controlled by a transverse electron stream produced between a photo-electric cathode, arranged on one side of the rav so as not to be struck by it, and an anode arranged on the other side of the ray. As shown, the photo-electric cathode C and an anode A, consisting of a gauze or pair of wires, are arranged on each side of the ray passing from a cathode G to an anode P ; an auxiliary anode E is mounted near the photo-electric cathode C. Deflecting plates D and windings F for preventing deflection of the ray to the electrodes A, E are provided. The anode is biased bv a battery X negatively with respect to the cathode G. The output circuit is connected through a condenser OC across a resistance R. Light from a lamp L is projected through a film S on to the photo-electric cathode. In a modification, a part of the ray is deflected to the anode A by the transverse stream. In another arrangement the light is reflected bv a polygonal mirror through a slit in a diaphragm.
