[Class 30. ] In a safety razor of the kind wherein a blade-carrier 11 is reciprocated longitudinally through a pin 10 by a face-engaging cam roller 8, the blade-carrier is mounted in the holder frame 3 by means of a single guide-bar 12, Figs. 2 and 3, or 29, Fig. 5, at the rear of the holder and means are provided for setting the blade edge in relation to the roller. Means, preferably adjustable, are also provided for limiting transverse rocking movement of the carrier about its guide and these means may also assist in setting and guiding the blade In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the blade is set and guided by corner hooks 25. In that shown in Fig. 5 the blade is set by a backing- plate 31 hinged to the holder frame and pressed on to the forward edge of the blade by a blade spring 34, the plate having corner projections 35 which rest on the sides of the holder frame 3 beyond the blade edge and so set the blade. Transverse rocking movement of the bladecarrier is limited upwardly by corner lugs 14, Figs. 2 and 3, on the holder frame 3 and downwardly by adjustable screw pins 15, Figs. 2 and 3, or 30, Fig. 5. The pins 15 serve also to attach to the holder a bridge-piece 2 which supports the handle. Alternatively or additionally this movement may be limited by providing a rectangular guide-bar 29, Fig. 5, sliding in similarly shaped apertures. The guide-bar may be carried by either the holder frame, as in Figs. 2 and 3, or the blade-carrier, as in Fig. 5. In the former construction, the blade is clamped by a backing-plate 18 hinged to the carrier 11 and locked by a clasp 22 rotatable on the underside of the blade-carrier to retain a catch 20 on the backing-plate, passing through a transverse central slot in the blade and carrier. In the latter construction, Fig. 5, the spring-controlled backing- plate 31 clamps the blade, which may be further secured by means of pivoted catches on the sides of the carrier. The blade is located on the carrier by pins 17 and in the form shown in Fig. 5 by a groove formed by the turned-over rear edge 36 of the carrier. The Provisional Specification states also that the carrier may take single-edged blades of the usual type.
