Abstract

379,219. Fuel-injection pumps. FIAT SOC. ANON., 250, Via Nizza, Turin, Italy. Feb. 1, 1932, No. 2985. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1931. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump in which the discharge is terminated by the opening of a release passage, the suction and release take place through separate passages. The pump barrel 4 is formed with opposite crescentshaped chambers 5, 51 communicating with a surrounding suction chamber 2 by means of ports 6, 6<1>, the chamber 5<1> being for the suction and the chamber 5 for the release of fuel. The chambers 5, 51 are put into communication with the pump chamber by means of a recess 14 and a groove 13, respectively. The plunger is rotatable to vary the timing of release and the recess 14 cooperates with an inclined groove 11 formed between the ends of the barrel and a sleeve 10 of larger internal bore than the barrel. The barrel and a header 7 carrying the discharge valve 9 are secured by a union 8.
