Abstract
463,459. Fuel - injection pumps. HODGES, R. J. Dec. 30, 1935, No. 35929. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection pump of the type in which spill ports G in the plunger are controlled by a sleeve F, which can be adjusted axially in order to vary the time at which injection ceases, the sleeve F is formed with helical grooves, which are engaged by inclined keys I on a plate J. The latter is adjustably secured to a control bar C by means of studs K passing through slots 4, in order to permit individual adjustment of the cylinders in a multi-cylinder pump. A plate J is adjusted by means of a pin inserted through a hole O. A conical extension Q is formed on the lower surface of the valve, in order to delay opening and closing, and thus secure absence both of knock and of dribble. An air pocket T communicates with the suction chamber W by means of a passage V.
