[Class 92 (ii).] Breech mechanism.-The breech screw 3 is housed in a block 1 which moves transversely in the gun breech after the manner of a wedge breech block. The operating bell-crank lever 6, Fig. 2, first acts to rotate the screw in the block for unlocking and then slides the block laterally to open the breech. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a lever 9 fast with the block moves to the position 9<1> for unlocking and then to the position 9<11> for moving the block laterally a pin on the block moving in a cycloidal groove 11. The Specification states that the firing pin may be cocked during the locking movement and the cartridge case extracted during unlocking.
