Abstract

215,680. Browning, J. M. Dec. 14. 1923. Breech actions, sliding breechblocks; magazines. - The magazine latch of an automatic gun is automatically released by the action-slide when the magazine is empty. The invention is shown applied to a gas-operated gun of the kind described in Specification 133,379. The upper end of the pivoted magazine latch 8 is engaged by a lever 7 which is mounted so as to be capable of a limited sliding movement on its pivot 7<a>. When the magazine is empty, a projection 18a on the cartridge lifter raises a slide 10 which, by means of an intermediate lever 9 raises the rear end of the lever 7 into the path of the action-slide 12. The actionslide during the first part of its return movement pushes the lever 7 forwards and releases the latch, the action-slide being then locked in a retracted position until a filled magazine is inserted. The latch 8 is provided with a finger-piece so that it can be operated by hand when desired.
