203,527. Gast, C. Sept. 18, 1922. Machine guns.-A breech-bolt locking mechanism for automatic guns of the recoiling-barrel type comprises two laterally disposed circular locking- discs 16 which are rotatable within the barrelextension 3 by the engagement of striking faces 16<d>, 16<c> on the discs with fixed abutments 15b, 15<a> during the recoil and return movements of the barrel. Diametral slots 16<a> in the discs register with lugs 6<a> on the breech-bolt 6 when the discs are rotated for unlocking by the engagement of the faces 16d, 15b during the initial recoil of the barrel. The opening and closing loading movements of the breech-bolt are thus permitted, and the final return of the barrel causes the engage-- ment of the faces 16<c>, 15<a> to rotate the discs behind the lugs 6a and thereby lock the breech-bolt.
