Abstract

150,287. Auto-Ordnance Corporation, (Assignees of Payne, O. V.). Aug. 18, 1919, [Convention date]. Machine guns; ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to automatic guns of the kind in which the breech-block has inclined locking- lugs for retarding the opening of the breech and in which a single spring returns the breech-block bv its pressure and rotates it by its torsion. According to the invention, the breech-body is so formed that there is no camming action to rotate the bolt into the locking position, the whole of the looking rotation being effected by the spring. In the construction shown, applied to a smallarm, the rotary bolt B, shown detached in Fig. 9, has inclined locking lugs l, l<1> engaging corresponding abutments on the body and adapted to lock the breech until the pressure falls in accordance with the principle described in Specification 14368/14. The bolt is returned and rotated by a spring Y fastened at the front. to the bolt and at the rear of the breech-body. A clearance space for the locking lugs is formed in the breechbody in front of the locking abutments, as shown in Fig. 4, so that there is no camming action to lock the bolt.
