Abstract

124,539. Link, R. P. Jan. 2, 1918. Ordnance breech mechanism. - Relates to primer-lock firing-mechanism in which a blank cartridge is used as a primer, and in which the lock is mounted on a hinge-pin so as to swing aside to expose the primer chamber. The invention consists in mounting the working parts of the lock in a mud-proof casing pivoted to a shoe-plate fixed on the axial vent tube. Fig. 1 shows the firing elements comprising a loose firing-pin F, pivoted hammer G, and spring controlled striker H, carried by a casing E pivoted at D to a plate C screwed to the axial vent tube A of the breech block B. After rotating a knob K to bring a gap on its flange k into register with a locking projection M on the plate C, the casing E can be swung aside to obtain access to the primer chamber, a pivoted primer extractor V being actuated by the casing E or by the end of the striker H, and a pivoted safety locking-piece S being raised. behind projections Q on the striker H by a face on the plate C. A spring-pressed safety-pin J prevents firing movement of the hammer when the lock is open, but enters a pocket P in a groove in the knob K to permit firing when the knob has been turned to locking position. By inserting the forked end of a slip-off trigger-lever R, Fig. 6, behind the projections Q, the cocking- piece is displaced and the striker can be cocked and released by pulling a lanyard attached to an eye r on the trigger lever.
