Abstract
1,088,605. Cartridge actuated tools for driving dowel pins. J. M. F. MASSACRIER. Aug. 3, 1965 [Aug. 4, 1964; Nov. 3, 1964], No. 33248/65. Heading B4C. A dowel driving device comprises a magazine 2 rotatably mounted on a body 1, and formed with chambers 2b for accommodating cartridges C for firing dowels P and arranged to be brought successively into alignment with a trigger operated striker rod 12 and a barrel 3, means operative to hold the magazine 2 against rotation when in a position for firing, and means for cocking the striker rod 12 operative only when the magazine 2 is so held. The breech cylinder 21 is in screw-threaded engagement with the body 1 so that it is movable axially when rotated by a lever 24 to abut against the magazine cylinder 2 and hold it against rotation. The striker rod 12 is cocked by a sear 10 carried by a slider 9 having a front part 9b secured to a mouthpiece 26 which is pressed against a fixed surface to effect the cocking operation. The wall of the breech cylinder 21 is formed with an L-shaped opening 21b having axially and circumferentially extending portions. When the sear 10 passes through the circumferential portion of the opening 21b it is prevented from moving sufficiently to cock the striker rod 12, but when the cylinder 21 is turned by the lever 24 to abut against the magazine cylinder 2 the sear 10 may slide rearwardly in the axially extending portion of the opening 21b to cock the striker rod 12. A safety lever 15 prevents accidental cocking movement of the slider 9 and has to be pivoted by the operator before cocking can be effected. In an alternative embodiment means is provided for locking the barrel 3 against the magazine cylinder 2 to prevent rotation of the latter, and for preventing cocking of the gun if such locking is not effected.
