Abstract

1,217,907. Fastener driving tool. HILTI A.G. 12 July, 1968 [11 Aug., 1967; 9 Jan., 1968; 11 March, 1968], No. 33261/68. Heading B4C. A cartridge actuated fastener driving tool includes a duct 29 in which a cartridge magazine 30 is placed, a barrel 5 movable within a housing 1 and having a cartridge chamber 8, a bolt 15 which locks a firing pin 17 against movement until the muzzle of the tool is pressed against a workpiece, and mechanism operated by the barrel 5 to advance the magazine. When the muzzle 6 is pressed against a workpiece the part 13, which has an extension (13a) (Fig. 2, not shown) abutting the barrel, is moved against spring 14. The bolt moves the firing pin against spring 18, and a cartridge is located in the chamber 8. Firing is effected by depressing the trigger and thus causing the projection 34c on lever 34 to move the bolt out of the path of the pin 17. Piston 7 forces a fastener into the workpiece. To reset the tool, insert 2 is pulled out from the housing thus moving the barrel 5 and permitting pivotal movement of levers 22, 23. The latter pivots clockwise and hook member 27a carried thereby engages in the next lower aperture 30b in the magazine. Return of the barrel to the position shown pivots the lever 23 anticlockwise and advances the magazine to align another cartridge with the chamber 8. A rocking lever 9, when the insert 2 is pulled out, engages the drive piston and returns it to its initial position relative to the barrel and piston projection 7c ejects the spent cartridge if such has become disengaged from the magazine. In an alternative embodiment the fastener is driven directly by the explosive force from a cartridge. The magazine may include both the fasteners and cartridges.
