Abstract
233,363. Soncini, C., and Castelli, V. May 3, 1924, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-Relates to short barrel-recoil guns having a bolt-locking sleeve operated by engaging a fixed part of the gun. According to the invention, the sleeve 15 is operated by the engagement of helical surfaces 18, 19 at its ends with corresponding helical surfaces formed on inwardly projecting bosses fixed to the gun casing 2. The sleeve 15 is rotatably mounted on the barrel 1 and is adapted to engage locking lugs 17 on the bolt 7. A yielding spring detent is provided to hold the ring in the unlocked position during the independent movement of the breechbolt. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a breech action shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled) in which the locking mechanism comprises a hooked lever 3 pivoted to the barrel 1 and engaging a notch 6 on the breech-block 7: The lever has a projection 8 engaging the inside of the breech casing 2 and is pressed outwards by a spring 9 so that, when the barrel recoils, the projection rides along the inclined surface 11 and enters a rounded notch 12 in the casing, thereby releasing the breech-block and acting as a detent to retain the barrel in the recoiling position until the return of the breechblock. The barrel is then pushed forwards and the lever is turned to the locking position by the incline 11. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
