Abstract

378,751. Smallarms. RHEINISCHE METALLWAARENUND MASCHINENFABRIK, 195, Ulmenstrasse, Derendorf, Dusseldorf, Germany. Dec. 16, 1931, No. 34880. Convention date, Sept. 11. [Class 119.] Relates to smallarms having a longitudinally moving breech-bolt, and a safety device mounted in the bolt adapted to engage with and lock the firing-pin. According to the invention, the safety catch i, Figs. 1 and 3, has a hand-grip i<1> which is so shaped and disposed that it can nest completely within the breech-bolt b. In the form shown, the barrel c recoils with the bolt b when the gun is fired. The firing-pin e is guided by telescopicallymounted members f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, which are surrounded by the firing-pin spring f, which also acts as a brake for the recoil of the barrel. The safety catch i is pivoted on a pin b<2> in a transverse slot b<1> in the bolt b. When the hand-grip i<1> is withdrawn from the slot b<1>, a shoulder i<2> of the catch enters one of two slots e<1>, e<2> in the firing-pin and holds the latter against movement in either the stressed or de-stressed position. At the same time, the hand-grip engages with a shoulder a<1> of the breech casing a and thereby prevents the bolt from being retracted. In a modification, the slots e<1>, e<2> are replaced by an upper ledge on the firing-pin, which ledge also constitutes a guide for the pin. A lever g pivoted to the firing-pin is connected to the trigger mechanism and is adapted to hold the firing-pin in the stressed position until the trigger is pulled.
