[Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi).] Mixture from a carburetter 21 for heavy fuel passes through a chamber 24 heated by the exhaust gases, and is admitted to the cylinder through a valve 4, facing which is a valve 2, supplying cold air to cause condensation of the fuel content of the heated mixture. The valves are operated together, with the valve 4 opening slightly in advance of the air valve 2 ; petrol may be supplied through the valve 2 when starting.
