Abstract

358,403. Variable-speed gearing. SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS PANHARD ET LEVASSOR, 19, Avenue d'Ivry, Paris. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5655. Convention date, March 22, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] Four-speed gearing comprises inner gears 6, 7 fast on driven shaft 2 meshing with gears 10, 11 loose on countershaft 3, and outer gears 5, 12 fast on shaft 3 meshing respectively with a pinion 4 fast on driving-shaft 1 and with a gear 8 loose on shaft 2. A light striking ring 16 between the gears 6, 7 carries clutch pins 17 passing through shaped holes in both these gears and adapted to engage drivingly clutch recesses 19, 20 in the outer gears 4, 8, respectively. The pins 17 are cylindric or prismatic in form. A double-ended clutch sleeve 21 slides between the loose gears on the countershaft. Additional gears 9 &c. may be provided for reverse driving, say, of a vehicle.
