347,619. Methods of generating steam. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Jan. 14, 1930, No. 1309. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1929. Addition to 347,199. [Class 123 (ii).] In a steam generator comprising a combustion chamber 1 to which air is supplied under a pressure such that the combustion gases pass over the heating surfaces of the generator at about the velocity of sound as described in the parent Specification, the air compressor 10 is driven by a turbine 8 operated by the combustion gases, which flow from the combustion chamber through long tubular nozzles 6 forming the heating surfaces of the steam generator. Water circulates from the generator through a separator drum 12 back through a pump 11 to the generator. Steam is taken off from the drum and superheated in a coil 16 around the combustion chamber. The main part of the air passes up around the walls 3 of the combustion chamber and mixes with the fuel entering through the burner 20. Part of the air is led into the burner and a part passes into the combustion chamber through holes 22 in the walls. The nozzle tubes 6 may be straight and may be restricted at their inlet ends.
