[Class 123 (ii).] To promote the water circulation and to facilitate the steam separation in a steam boiler heated by gases which are generated by explosion or by continuous conibustion under high pressure in an internal combustion chamber 1 and which are passed over the boiler surfaces 3 at a velocity of from 200 metres per second to the velocity of sound, the main part of the water in the steam separating space 5 is led to the water circulation pump 16 through return passages 17 within the boiler casing, and the wet steam is conducted into an exterior separator 20 which discharges its water into the return passages. The gases pass from the combustion chamber through tubes 2 inside water tubes 3 connected to upper and lower water chambers. Part of the water in the upper chamber passes downwards through an annular opening 6 into a space 7 communicating with the return passages. The other part passes upwards through nozzles 11 so arranged as to give the water a circular motion. Water returns from the space above the nozzles through tubes 14, and the separated steam is led to the separator 20 together with the steam conducted from the space 7 through tubes 10. A number of boilers may have a common circulation pump and may have their external separators connected to common water supply and steam delivery pipes.
