Abstract
345,696. Jib cranes. WALKER BROS. (WIGAN), Ltd., WALKER, J. S. A., and WALKER, A. G., Pagefield Iron Works, Wigan. Jan. 6,1930, No. 541. [Class 78 (iv).] To prevent overloading, a member, such as an arm, is mounted on the jib and is capable of a limited displacement relatively to the jib to operate a limit switch, warning device, &c. when the load reaches the permissible maximum at any angular displacement of the jib. One end of the hoisting cable 5 after passing over the movable sheave 3 is connected to one end of an arm 7 mounted on a pivot 8 on the jib 1. The other end of the arm 7 carries a roller 8<1> adapted to press against a plunger 16 mounted in guides in a frame 10 and acted on by a spring 11. A collar 13 on the plunger is adapted to close contacts in a box 15 connected to a limit switch &c. As the jib swings outwards towards the horizontal the leverage of the cable 5 on the arm 7 increases and a proportionately smaller load causes the limit switch contacts to close.
