Abstract

375,711. Cranes. ARROL & CO., Ltd., SIR W. and SHEPHERD, R. G., 92, Rigby Street, Parkhead, Glasgow. Dec. 24, 1931, No. 35743. [Class 78 (iv).] In a jib crane, a sheave 4 or other means in the path of the hoisting rope 5 moves an element 18 in accordance with the load, and this element co-operates with another element 19, which is actuated by the luffing movement of the jib, so as to indicate safe-load conditions and/or to prevent overloading or overluffing ; or any devices 18, 19 moved in accordance with the load and the radius, respectively, cooperate to give an audible signal and to cut off power on overloading or overluffing. As shown, the sheave 4 is mounted on a bell-crank lever 7, 12 restrained by a spring 14, and operates through a link 17 a pointer 18 moving over a quadrant 19. The quadrant is moved about the same axis 20 as the pointer, by a cam 21 pivoted at 23 and operated by a link 27 connected to the jib. The cam 21 carries a pointer 24 moving over a dial 25 to indicate the radius of the jib. Switches 28, 29 on the quadrant 19 are operated in succession by members 30, 31 on the pointer 18 so as to close the circuit of a bell 32 and then to operate a circuit-breaker 33 in the main supply. A pushbutton switch 34<1> permits the operator to close the main circuit again in order to remove the overload condition. The quadrant 19 may be suitably marked, the line 34 indicating the maximum safe load. Specification 138,707, [Class 78 (ii), Lifting &c.], is referred to.
