Abstract
1,030,103. Safe load indicators for jib-cranes. T. T. BOUGHTON & SONS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 8866/64. Heading B8B. When the overturning moment in a mobile jib-crane reaches a predetermined figure, a pedestal 3, to which the jib 7 is pivoted at 8, tends to pivot about an axis 6. This pivotal movement is opposed by resilient discs 17, 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), interposed between the pedestal and a plate 10 mounted on a base 2. When the discs are compressed a micro-switch 19 is operated to give a warning signal and/or to stop the hoist mechanism. A plurality of micro-switches may provide a series of signals. The invention may be applied to tower-cranes. Tensionally stressed elements may replace discs 17, 18. Pneumatic or hydraulic signalling means may be employed.
