Abstract

1360128 Crane safety indicator PYE Ltd 16 May 1972 22958/72 Heading B8B [Also in Division G1] A load indicating arrangement for use with a crane or other lifting apparatus having a pivoted boom which is luffed by an hydraulic ram or other boom supporting means comprises means for producing a first signal (M) representative of the total turning moment of the boom 1 about its pivot 6 in supporting a load, means for producing a second signal (B) representative of the turning moment of the boom about its pivot due to the weight of the boom alone and means for dividing the difference between said first and second signals by a third signal (R) representative of the horizontal distance between the boom pivot point and the load to produce a fourth signal (W) which is representative of the weight of the load. Meters 34, 40, 44 and 45 display signals representative of boom luffing angle #, boom radius R, hook load W and available lifting capacity. An alarm 48 is actuated when hook load equals or exceeds maximum safe load or a predetermined percentage thereof, and may include circuits to cut off power to the hoist motor in the event of overload.
