Abstract

815,591. Safe-load indicators for cranes. ORENSTEIN-KOPPEL UND LUBECKER MASCHINENBAU A.G. Sept. 13, 1955 [Sept. 13, 1954; Sept. 6, 1955], No. 26244/55. Class 78 (4). Two potential dividers 11, 12 positioned to represent the load hoisted by a crane and its luffing angle are connected in cascade so that an instrument 16 indicates the load-moment while a relay 17 in parallel with the instrument 16 may operate a visual or audible signal when the maximum safe load is reached. A resistance varying with the slewing angle, where this effects the stability of the crane, may be inserted in series with the instrument 16 and means may be provided for preventing hoisting when the load is excessive. As illustrated the wiper 10 of the potential divider 11 is moved by a linkage 9 connected to the pivoted carriage 6 of a dynamometer 7, 8 while the wiper 14 of the potential divider 12 is connected with a pendulum 15 so as to remain vertical while the track 12 of the potential divider moves with the jib. The circuit may be fed from batteries or from an A.C. generator driven from the engine of the crane. A fixed resistor may be connected in series with one of the potential dividers 11, 12 to provide a safety factor.
