Abstract
852,082. Safe-load indicators for jib cranes. AITKEN, R. L. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 14, 1958], No. 4878/58. Class 78 (4). In a safe-load indicating device of the type in which a control cam causes the maximum permitted load to vary with the reach of the jib, the link 12 (Fig. 1) which moves the cam can be connected to any of several anchorages 21 so that a single surface on the cam can be used with several different jib lengths. The construction shown uses the safe-load indicating device described in Specification 723,070, the anchorages 21 being formed in a plate 15 located on the crane structure. The control cam may have several surfaces 16, 17, 18, 19 (Fig. 2) one of which is selected according to the conditions of use, e.g. whether outriggers are extended. The cam is carried by a spider 10 (Fig. 1) which can be connected in one of several rotary positions to a lever arm 11 on the link 12. Two safe-load indicators 1 can be carried on the usual frame 2 and connected by a balancing beam to the operating lever 8, the two indicators being used under different conditions. In an alternative construction the lever 11 is formed as a circular disc having a series of holes for connection to the lever 12, only one anchorage being provided on the plate 15.
