Abstract
778,741. Lever load handling machines. WHITTALL, J. A. Feb. 22, 1956 [Feb. 26, 1955], No. 5800/55, Class 78 (3). In a crane of the type in which a boom is pivoted at a point intermediate its ends on a telescopic tower, one end of the boom carries the load and the other end is connected to the tower so that expansion or contraction of the tower displaces the latter end in the opposite direction to the displacement of the tower. As shown, Fig. 1, a boom 16 is pivoted at 14 to a cylinder 10 which is slidably mounted in a framework 6 and which is raised by an hydraulic cylinder 7 and ram 8. A cable 17 passes from one end of the boom round pulleys 19, 20 to a collar 11 secured to the bottom of cylinder 7 and slidable in guides 26, 27. As the cylinder 10 is raised, the collar 11 is raised so pulling down one end of the boom by the cable 17. As shown, the crane is mounted on two road wheels, but alternatively it may be mounted directly on the ground or on more than two wheels.
