Abstract

344,717. Four-stroke engines. TETLOW, C. E., The Grange, Withins Road, Hollinwood, Oldham. July 21, 1930, No. 32126/29. Drawings to Specification. [Class 7 (ii).] In a four-stroke-cycle engine, a fan or other type of pump is employed to withdraw the exhaust gases and create a partial vacuum in the cylinder, into which combustible mixture is admitted or forced before the piston has completed the exhaust stroke. The compression and clearance spaces are therefore filled with combustible mixture before the piston commences the inlet stroke. The Specification is accompanied by diagrams illustrating piston positions and valve openings for the cycle according to the invention, and for a modification thereof, in which the inlet valve closes at the end of the compression stroke instead of at about a crankangle of 17‹ beyond it.
