Abstract
344,548. Pencil holders. LIVSEY, C., 13, Hope Street, Liverpool. Dec. 16, 1929, No. 38483. [Class 146 (iii).] Relates to a pencil-holder, having lead-propelling mechanism operated by a rotatable part of the barrel and provided with a lead-holding sleeve frictionally mounted on the propeller and adapted to engage obstructions in the casing to enable the propeller to move relatively to the sleeve. The propelling mechanism is housed in the rear end of the casing and is actuated by a head f to project or retract the propeller g. The lead-holding sleeve h is preferably formed from a strip of sheet brass and is frictionally held on the propeller g. A shoulder in the tip d, and a washer k, surrounding the propeller and located below the propelling mechanism, act as stops for the sleeve so that the propeller can move relatively thereto to permit ejection and replacement of the lead. Alternatively, a flange may be formed on the end of the sleeve to contact with a ring depending from the propelling mechanism and the top of the part c of the casing. A disc l is fitted inside the casing and is formed with an aperture for the passage of the spare leads into and from the receptacle m, the aperture being normally closed by the part c. According to the Provisional Specification, the end of the propelling mechanism may serve as the rear stop.
