Abstract

203,008. Marks, E. C. R., (Wahl Co.). March 28, 1922. Pencil - holders; crasers. - In a pencilholder of the type in which a lead-propeller engages a longitudinally-slotted shell and a screw-thread on the casing or other part of the holder, relatively to which the shell is rotatable, the slotted portion is formed in the front end of the shell and is separated from the rear end, which serves as a receptacle for spare leads, by a partition. The propeller comprises a, wire. 22 attached to a cross-head 21 which is formed with ratchetshaped teeth to engage with a similar shaped screw-thread on a tube 18 secured to the casing 10. The shell is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 4, the arms 23, 24 being bent up from the intermediate piece 34, in which a hole is made for the passage of the propeller 22, and fashioned into circular form, the sides of the cross-head passing between the arms. The lower end of the receptacle 25 is closed by a disc 32 riveted in position. The upper end of the receptacle is contracted and receives a collar 27 on which screws a sleeve 29 carrying a cap 26. A cover for the receptacle screws into the sleeve and supports an eraser. The lead is fed forward by the rotation of the shell relatively to the casing by means of the cap 28. Spring tongues are formed from the walls of the receptacle 25 and serve to hold frictionally the shell in the casing.
