Pencil and like point-protectors. - A pen or pencil is held in a case fitted with a pivoted cap or point-protector which is provided with a fingerpiece for operation by the thumb or finger of the hand holding the case to allow the pen or pencil to slide in the case and project the point. As shown in the Figure, the case 2 containing a reservoir pen 1 is provided with a pivoted cap 3 normally held closed by a spring coiled round the hinge-pin 6. and adapted to be opened by pressure on an extension 7. A cushion 4 is attached to the cap 3 to prevent injury to the point, and the pen is prevented from falling out of the case by a stop 9. When projected, the pen is held in writing position by the engagement of the edge of the cap in a recess 8 in the pen barrel. The rear end 10 of the case, which is also provided with a cushion 11, is made. detachable to enable the pen to be removed. The pen may be prevented from rotating in the case by the engagement of a pin on the case with a longitudinal groove in the pen barrel. The case may be reduced in length so that it only extends over a portion of the pen.
