Abstract

Reservoir pens.-In reservoir pens of the kind having a non- removable cap or end-piece with an aperture through which the nib is projected, a closure member being adapted to uncover the aperture automatically when engaged by the nib support on its outward movement, the closure member and its associated means are housed and operate completely within the non-removable cap, the operating means for projecting the nib is arranged to lock a. selffilling lever, and means are provided for preventing the flow of ink from the nib when it. is not in the writing position. The cap 11 attached to the pen barrel 8 is provided with an aperture 11<1> closed by a shutter portion 12 on a resilient member 13 when the pen is retracted. The member 13 is attached to or is integral with a ring 14 held between the cap and the barrel. The nib 1, feed bar 2, and a resilient member 3 are mounted in a tubular socket 4, the member 3 being pressed upon the outflow-orifice of the nib to prevent the escape of ink when it is within the cap 11. An india-rubber sac 5 secured to the feed bar 2 is collapsable in the usual manner by an adjacent metal strip 6 operated by the selffilling lever 10. The tubular socket 4 has an extension terminating in a button 7 projecting through a longitudinal slot 9 in the barrel and arranged so that the self-filling lever cannot be raised until the button is moved forward in the slot and the pen is projected. Accidental operation of the button 7 is prevented by raised pieces 15 projecting from the barrel on either side of the slot 9. The means for actuating the nib carrier and the closing-member of the aperture 11<1> are also applicable to reservoir pens which are not self-filling. A pocket clip 16, permanently secured to the barrel, is centrally slotted to embrace the projections 15 and to allow the button 7 to be moved to and fro within it. In a modification, the pocket clip carries the member to which the self-filling lever 10 is pivoted.
