Self-filling reservoir pens.-Selffilling mechanism for a collapsable-sac self-filling reservoir pen consists of a strip 3 lying along the inner wall of the barrel, and connected at one end to a second strip 5 secured at a medial point to a medial point of the presserbar 8, means being also provided for moving the free ends of the two strips relatively to one another to cause the strip 5 to be buckled. As shown in Fig. 1, the free end of the strip 3 is secured to a spring ring lying in a groove in the end plug 2 of the barrel, and the strip 5 is connected to an element 6 sliding in a, slot in the plug on actuation of a pivoted lever 7. According to modifications, the lever 7 can be pivoted at the inner end of the plug 2, one end engaging the end of the strip 5, and the other end being connected to a rod sliding in a slot in the plug; a star wheel may be used for actuating the element 6; a block on the end of the strip 5 may engage, a cam groove on a member connected to a rotatable head-piece; the strip 5 may be secured to the plug 2, and buckling produced by sliding the strip 3 by means of a button projecting through a slot in the plug or barrel; the strips 5, 8 are shortened, and a link, pivoted to the end of the strip 3 and to the strip 5 or a medial point of the presser-bar 8 adjacent the point of connection to the strip 5; or the strips 5, 8 can be relatively movable at the front, instead of the rear, ends, in which case a hinged member, connected to one of the strips, may be provided and in one position projects beyond the end of the nib so that the buckling can be effected by pressing the end of the hinged member on to the bottom of the ink bottle during the operation of filling.
