Abstract

216,719. Peters, S. E. July 3, 1923. Reservoir pens.-In a reservoir pen of the type in which a collapsable sac is compressed through the medium of a rotatable element, a non-rotatable member is connected to and moves in the same longitudinal direction as, the rotatable element. The rotatable member 18, which acts as a closure for the barrel 10, screws into the barrel and is connected to a sleeve 20 in such a manner that relative longitudinal motion is impossible. The sleeve 20 is provided with a pin 22, which, when the sleeve is drawn outwardly by unscrewing the cap 18, acts on a cam surface formed on a lever 24 to rock it about its pivot 25. The lever is held against displacement by passing the pivot pin 25 through lugs thereon. The lever is pivoted at its forward end to a presser-bar 26 secured on the sac 11, the pivot 27 being nearer to the rear end of the bar, so that, on operation, the rear end of the sac is compressed first. The rear end of the lever 24 is accommodated in a slot in the sleeve 20, and, when the cap 18 is screwed home, the wall of the slot engages the. lever to return it to normal position. A hook on the rear end of the lever, which engages the pin 22, acts as a stop for limiting the movement of the sleeve 20 and' cap 18. The lever' 24 is adapted to be held in an intermediate position so that the filling operation can be interrupted and resumed' without thenecessity of discharging the ink previously drawn in.
