Abstract
457,212. Fountain pens. SPOT PEN CO., Ltd., Tudor Grove, Well Street, Hackney, and JOHNSON, W. F., 13, Merrick Square, Trinity Street, both in London. July 22, 1935, No. 20767. [Class 146 (iii)] In a self-filling fountain pen of the type in which a sac is deflated by a presser-member operated from a stud movable longitudinally in the upper end of the barrel, the mechanism comprises a flexible bar which is adapted to be bent by an element extending longitudinally in the barrel and adapted to be moved longitudinally by screw means. The stud 5 is rotatably attached to a cap 8 screwing on the end of the barrel and prevented from disconnection by a head 6 on the inner end of the stud. The end of a steel bar 11 is bent to U-section and wedged into the end of the stud, and the bar is cranked so that it can lie along the wall of the barrel. A flat flexible steel bar 14 is formed with a reduced lower end which engages in a slot in the bar 11, and with a rounded upper end which passes through an aperture in the cranked end of the bar 11 and engages the rear end of the barrel. Unscrewing of the cap withdraws the stud 5 and bar 11 and causes the bar 14 to bend inwardly. A presser-bar 18 is attached to the bar 14, and when the bar 14 is flexed, the bar 18 is drawn inwardly so as not to rub the sac against the end of the nib-section. Instead of securing the stud to the cap rearward movement of the stud can be effected by a spring.
