Abstract

414,196. Pencil holders. BOWLER, A. T., 34, Pelham Street, Ashton-under-Lyne. April 26, 1933, No. 12127. [Class 146 (iii).] Screw -propelling pencil holders of the kind described in Specification 368,660 are provided with a spiral compression spring c mounted on the push-rod a between a small collar a<3> and a lead carrier b slidable on the rod, the collar and carrier being adapted to be arrested at certain points of the movement in order to prevent overwinding. As shown, the rod a is provided with a projection a<2> passing through a longitudinal slot in a sleeve d secured in the point section f<1> rotatable relatively to the barrel, and into a helical slot in a member e secured in the barrel. The carrier b is formed with an indentation which engages with a groove or flat on the rod a to prevent disconnection. On reaching the forward limit of movement the carrier engages a flange on the end of the point section and the rod a continues to move forward, ejecting the lead stump and compressing the spring c. On the reverse rotation, the spring causes the re-engagement of the projection a<2> with the helical slot. At the limit of movement in the inward direction, the collar a<3> is arrested by an indentation on the sleeve d. In a modification, the sleeve d is attached to a rotatable knob instead of to the tip.
