Abstract

480,717. Pencil holders. MABIE, TODD, & CO., Ltd., JOHNSON, L. W., and SEARS, E. S. Aug. 28, 1936, No. 23663. [Class 146 (iii)] In pencil holders of the kind in which a step-by-step adjustment of the lead is obtained by reciprocation of a gripper acting in association with a helical spring, the movement of the gripper is obtained by rotation of an operating-cap or the like. The gripper 6 is normally held in its retracted position by a spring 28 compressed between a fixed stop 31 and a stop 30 secured to the gripper and is moved forward by a collar 14 engaging the stop 30. The collar is provided with a pin 24 engaging a longitudinal slot 26 in the casing and a cam surface 20 on a sleeve 8 secured to an extension 3 on a magazine 2 adapted to be rotated by the operating-cap.
