Class 146(3) In a propelling pencil of the type in which a lead holder is secured to a transverse member which engages both a helically - grooved member and a relativelyrotatable longitudinallyslotted member, the latter member is rotatable with respect to the barrel 1 and is urged by a spring 22 into engagement with an abutment 14 on the barrel. The lead holder 7 is connected to a threaded cross-head 5 by a rod 6, the cross-head 5 engaging the helical member 4 secured to the barrel 1 while being rotated by the slotted member 11 carrying a knob 16. The member 11 extends into a fixed tube 20, the spring 22 being interposed between a collar 23 carried by the member 11 and an abutment 24 on the tube 20.
