HENRY F. AUSTIN, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
FEEDER FOB. FOUNTAIN PENS.
Application filed July 14, 1921.
T 0 all nf1/10m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY F. AUSTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the county of rleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Feeder for Fountain Pens, of which the following is a specification. v
The present invention relates to fountain pens or the like, the primary object of the invention being to provide means for causing the ink contained in the inlr sack, to flow to the pen lpoint, thereby eliminating the necessity of the user throwing the pen in an endeavor to start the ink flowing.
Another obj ect of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be located at a point directly under the users fingers so that the device may be readily and easily operated.
*With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing` from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of a pen `constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the pen barrel, and taken on line Q--Q of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-l of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the barrel of the pen is indicated by the reference character 5 in which is supported the usual rubber inlr sack 6 which has one end thereof embracing a portion of the pen supporting member 'T through which the inlr passes in its travel to the pen point 8.
The barrel 5 is provided with an elongated opening ll to accommodate ,the lever 9 which is pivotally supported between the walls of the opening, at a point intermediate its ends Serial No. 484,761.
as at 9, so that one end of the lever will contact with the bar l0, when the thumb piece l1 is moved upwardly, thereby com pressing the sack 6 to cause the saine to fill with ink when the lever is released, it being understood however that the pen point positioned in a suitable inlr container,
prior to this operation'.
The device forming the essence of this ini vention embodies a finger piece l2 which is formed on the forward end ofthe bar 10, the finger piece being' shown as provided with tapered walls cooperating with the tapered walls of the opening 13, formedin the barrel 5. T he finger piece is of a construction to be engaged by the finger of the user, to force the sack inwardly, and Ldue to the construction of the walls of the Opening yand finger piece, it will be noted that the Having thus described-the invention, what is claimed as new is A fountain pen comprising a barrel, an ink containing` sack positioned within the barrel, a relatively long barA disposed between the inner wall of the barrel and outer surface of the sach, a finger piece formed at one end of the bar, said finger piece adapted to eX- tend through the barrel. whereby the sack may be compressed, and meansadapted to contact with the har at a point substantially intermediate the ends thereof for compressing the sack.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, l have hereto affixed my signer ture in the presence of two witnesses.
