Class 146(3) A reservoir pen comprises a barrel 1 provided with an axial opening 2 which permits a cartridge 5 including an ink container and writing member 8 to be projected for writing purposes, a weight 9 associated with the cartridge to move inside the barrel and guide the cartridge, and means for retaining the cartridge in position in writing position. As shown when the pen is held with the point downwards, a collar 6 on the cartridge 5 supports a slidable metal sleeve which forms the weight 9 and causes the cartridge to move sideways so that its end 10 engages the rim of a screwed plug 3 to retain the cartridge in writing position. A shoulder 7 on the cartridge engages the opening 2 to limit the outward movement of the cartridge When it is desired to retract the writing point 8 which may be a ball-point, the pen is held with the point vertically upwards to permit the cartridge 5 to retract under its own weight, the weight 9 guiding the rear end 10 of the cartridge into a bore 4 of the plug 3. In a modification, the weight is fitted on a separate stem with an enlarged head which engages the rear end of the cartridge, the rear end of the stem being received in a screwed plug when the cartridge is retracted and engaging the rim of the plug when the cartridge is in writing position.
