Abstract

343,999. Valve amplifying circuits. RADIO FREQUENCY LABORATORIES, Inc. ; Boonton, New Jersey, U.S.A. Nov. 1, 1929, No. 33296. Convention date, Oct. 3. [Class 40 (v).] An amplifier comprises two thermionic amplifying-valves 1, 2 arranged differentially, that is with grids G1 in parallel and plates in push-pull or vice versa (Fig. 7, not shown). Volume is controlled by varying the grid bias on one or both valves by potentiometers 13<1>, 13<11>. If both are varied the sum of the biases is kept constant. When the stage gain, resulting from the difference in the grid biases, is small, the amplification is substantially distortionless (Fig. 3, not shown). According to a modification, volume is controlled by varying the potential on one of the screening-grids G2 (Fig. 6, not shown).
