Abstract

469,895. 'Vale amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRAILSFORD, J. D. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3267. [Class 40 (v)] The gain of an amplifier is controlled by varying an impedance connected across one of two channels the outputs of which are combined in opposition. As shown one channel comprises the valves 9, 12 and the other, the valve 7 the inputs and outputs of the two channels being connected in parallel. The variable impedance comprises a valve 10 connected across the input circuit of valve 12, its impedance being controlled manually or automatically by variation of its grid bias. The inputs and outputs of the two channels may alternatively be connected in push-pull and the amplifying valves are preferably of the screen-grid electron beam type such as described in Specification 403,973. The valve 10 may be replaced by an electro-mechanically controlled impedance or a temperature responsive resistance. A phase shifting network may be included in the anode circuit of valve 7 to compensate for that introduced in the other channel, Fig. 4 (not shown).
