Abstract

462,323. Wireless receiving systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 6, 1935, No. 24914. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1934. [Class 40 (v)] A multi-range receiver is provided with means interlocked with the wave-range switch for changing the sensitivity and/or the A.V.C. characteristics and/or the fidelity curve in different positions of said switch. A complete receiver having five wavelength ranges is described, Fig. 1 (not shown), the skeleton circuit of which is shown in the Figure, and comprises R.F. amplifier 10, detector-oscillator 11, first and second I.F. amplifiers 12, 13, detector-A.F. amplifier 14, and auxiliary I.F. amplifier 19 feeding A.Y.C. diode 18. The fiveposition wave-changing switches 130, 131 are ganged with switches 85, 68, 135 controlling the sensitivity, A.V.C. characteristic and fidelity curve of the receiver, respectively. Thus, on wavebands B, C, D the switch 85 connects a manually adjusted portion 37 of the self-bias cathode resistance of valves 10, 11 in parallel with a portion 104 of the self-bias resistance of valves 12, 13 while on wavebands X, A the resistance 37 controls the valves 10, 11 only. Two sources of A.V.C. potential are provided namely amplified delayed control bias from the load resistance 62, 63 of the A.V.C. diode 18, and bias from the load resistance 74 of the diode portion of valve 14. The switch 68 connects the grid circuits of valves 11, 12 to the first source on wavebands X, A and to the second source on wavebands B, C, D, while valve 13 is controlled always by the second source and the valve 10 by the first. The input circuits of valves 10, 11, however, are arranged so that the grids are earthed for D.C. potentials when switches 130, 131 are operated to receive waveband D. The fidelity control switch 135 is arranged to have no effect on wavebands X, A but to reduce the low-frequency response of the receiver on wavebands B, C, D by shortcircuiting a portion of a variable resistance in an audio-frequency tone-controlling network. Specification 440,483 is referred to.
