Thermionic amplifiers.-In an amplifier of the kind described in Specification 325,833 where use is made of the phase opposition between the input and output circuits of a thermionic valve to secure push-pull amplification, decoupling- means are employed to separate the valves producing the push-pull effect from the subsequent stages of amplification, so as to avoid back-coup. ling, which may either modify the frequencyresponse curve, of the system as a whole or cause persistent oscillation. As shown, the input voltage is applied to the grid of the valve A. From the plate resistance 3, a voltage is tapped off at an intermediate point 10 (to compensate for the amplification factor of the valve) and is applied to the grid of the valve B. The voltages in the leads 11, 12 are now equal in magnitude and opposite in phase with respect to the neutral point 13, and are applied to subsequent stages C - - F of amplification. According to the invention, a decoupling-resistance, 29, shunted by a condenser 30, separates the anode circuits of the valves A, B from the rest of the amplifier.
