Abstract
317,270. Fielding, S. J. Nov. 15, 1928. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.- To start an engine, normally operated by the solid injection of a heavy oil through a nozzle E, an auxiliary spraying nozzle H is provided for the oil, the arrangement being such that when one nozzle is in action the other is out of action. The nozzles have fluid-pressure opened valves E<1>, H<1>, the valve H<1> being loaded with a more-powerful spring so that it will not open until the valve E<1> is held on its seat bv a wing nut E<4>, which is tightened on its stem. Alternatively a handactuated valve may 'be provided behind the nozzle E, or the valve E<1> may be connected to the engine governor. The application is shown to the engine described in Specification 277,244, and the auxiliary nozzle may be arranged at I and spray the fuel into The narrow neck B separating the pre-combustion chamber A from the main combustion chamber C.
