Abstract

298,789. Olson, S. Nov. 11, 1927. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external. - In a multi-cylinder engine air is compressed in the front ends of the cylinders or in a separate compressor and is delivered to a reservoir at a pressure between 15 and 75 lb. per sq. in. Part of this air is mixed with fuel in a chamber 23, Fig. 3, the air entering by the nozzle and inducing a flow of fuel from the pipe 21. The rich mixture so formed is passed through a coil 26 surrounding the exhaust pipe; a jacket 27 is placed outside the coil. The heated mixture is led into a second mixing chamber, and compressed air direct from the reservoir is added to it. A throttle valve is provided in this second compressed-air supply pipe and in the second mixing chamber, which delivers to the inlet manifold 33.
