Abstract
292,355. Murrell, A. C. June 25, 1927. Exhaust - silencers.-The silencer comprises a number of hollow substantially conical members 1 arranged in series and spaced apart to form passages 2 through which air may be drawn by the flow of the exhaust. The larger ends of the cones are the leading ends and the smaller ends have apertures which increase in area as the outlet is approached. The foremost conical member is flanged for attaching to the exhaust pipe 3, and the cones are mounted on rods 4 passing through lugs 5 which are spaced apart by distance pieces 8. In a modified construction, the rods pass through slots in the cones instead of the lugs 5, and distance pieces with heads thereon serve to space the cones apart. A plate to receive the rods fits over the smaller end of the rearmost cone or the latter may be flanged.
