Abstract

364,222. Exhaust silencers. I M - PERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London, and GREENWOOD, C. E., Leathley, Coalway Road, Wolverhampton. Oct. 22, 1930, No. 31713. [Class 7 (ii).] The silencer comprises a cylindrical barrel 2 having conical endplates 3 to which the inlet pipe 4 and outlet pipe 5 respectively are attached. Within the barrel are disposed a number of conical baffles 6 with their apices pointing in the direction of gas flow. Each baffle has a perforation 8 about midway between apex and base, the perforations being staggered. The baffles may occupy only a portion of the length of the barrel, and their spacing may be uniform or may increase towards the outlet end.
