Abstract
360,560. Exhaust silencers. HASLAM, J. J., West Royd, Red Lane, Ainsworth, near Bolton. Sept.. 6, 1930, No. 26631. [Class 7 (ii).] The silencer consists of a cylindrical casing 2 having inlet and outlet openings 3, 8 respectively, mounted in end plates 4 and eccentric to the axis of the casing. Within the casing are conical deflectors 5, 7, 7c and intermediate baffling members 6, 6b, 6d. The conical members are perforated near their bases, and the apex of the member 5 is in line with the axis of the inlet 3. The intermediate members 6, 6b, 6d have curved deflecting surfaces and a central cylindrical aperture 6a the inlet and outlet of which are flared. The distance between each pair of conical and curved members decreases in the direction of the outlet. The members fit snugly within the casing and are secured thereto by riveting or spot welding.
