Abstract

345,895. Exhaust silencers. SK€RLUND, C. A. and SHARLAND MOTORS, Ltd., Sedgley Road West, Tipton, Staffordshire. June 23, 1930, No. 19068. [Class 7 (ii).] The silencer comprises a cylindrical casing through the hollow walls a of which cooling water may be circulated, and coaxially within which is arranged one, or a pair of conical members b. In the annular space between each member b and the casing, a helical partition c is arranged, the partitions shown being preferably of opposite hand. Exhaust gases from opposed cylinders enter the casing at each end d tangentially, and flow through passages of gradually diminishing cross section, namely those through the annular spaces, and those through the conical members. Discharge takes place through outlets f at the smaller ends of the members b. In a modification for use with a single exhaust pipe, only one member b is employed.
